Feeding our Chicken

In Canada, any chicken may be labelled "grain-fed" or "grain-fed chicken." To ensure that you're buying exclusively vegetable grain-fed chicken, with no animal meal or animal fats, you must choose a certified chicken, whose feed was inspected by an independent body.

As an industry leader, Exceldor was the first Quebec poultry enterprise to have obtained this certification, recognized by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). To achieve this status, Exceldor followed a series of rigorous steps, including the following :

  • Setting up a program and a set of specifications defining chicken breeding and feeding procedures as well as required inspection measures.

  • Signing agreements with its 250 breeder members and its millers to ensure that they would comply with these new specifications.

  • Implementing control and inspection procedures, led by Agro-Com, an independent firm recognized by the CFIA, at Exceldor's breeder farms, mills and processing plants.
