Freezing fresh chicken is incredibly convenient, if only to always have some at hand. But you must remember a few things: for food safety reasons, it is not recommended to defrost chicken at room temperature.
Choose one the following three defrosting methods instead.
Leave in original packaging.
Make sure to place it in a tray to collect the juices.
Estimate 10 hours per kilogram.
Leave it in its original packaging.
Submerge in cold water.
Change the water often.
Estimate 2 hours per kilogram.
Cook within 24 hours, at the most.
Use a microwave oven to begin the defrosting process, then finish in the refrigerator. When the meat is entirely defrosted in a microwave oven, you will often notice that it has partly started to cook. Follow indications in the user’s guide for your appliance for cooking times and power.
